Church Planting

The Need for Church Plants in Canada

Other than revival services, characterized by the miraculous activities of the Holy Spirit, THE most effective form of reaching lost people for Christ is church planting.  The launch of a new and dynamic church in a community inevitably draws both existing believers, but surprisingly almost 50% of the new attendees come from those who were formerly unchurched.
On average, new, culturally relevant church planting efforts result in greater numbers of conversions, baptisms, and engaging people in ministry efforts, than do older, and more established churches.  Church plants grow faster, are more adaptable and responsive to changes in the local community, than are older congregations.
The Wesleyan denomination is committed to launching hundreds of new churches across Canada and Maine, especially in those communities that are presently underserviced by gospel preaching and culturally relevant Christian churches.
The Wesleyan church has identified at least 98 communities across Canada that have populations of 20,000 or more, that have a disproportionately small number of churches, for the size of the community.  And the broader goal of having one strong Christian church for every 2,000 people in a local community, means Canada needs almost 7,000 new churches immediately.
There are communities in:  Northern Ontario,  Newfoundland, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, British Columbia,  Southern Ontario, Quebec, Yukon, Nunavut, Northern Territories, Maine, Indigenous communities … along with quickly growing communities of recent new-comers to Canada where churches are desperately needed.
Is God calling you to launch a new church OR to be part of a church planting team?
It takes all kinds of people, to reach all kinds of people.  There is no, one definite type of personality that is considered the ideal church planter.  God can use you to plant a new church if you have a genuine love for God, and for lost people, and a desire to help new believers grow in their faith.  We can promise you, you won’t be planting a church alone.  The Wesleyan denomination always plants new churches with small church planting teams.
The Wesleyan church provides strong support for those who help us launch new churches.  We offer such things as:
  • the promise of an existing church (or a group of churches) to stand behind your church planting efforts for the first few years.
  • an assessment to determine your readiness to launch a new church
  • in most cases, financial support is available
  •  help in developing a church planting plan (how, where, when) to effectively launch a new congregation
  • denominational leaders who believe in you and what you are attempting to do for God and His kingdom

Canada does not need more clones of the types of churches that presently exist. What is needed are new and fresh expressions of churches who are on mission to reach people for Christ, being led by those who are sold out for Christ and empowered by the Spirit of God.

Is God calling you to lead or be part of a team to plant a church in a community that desperately needs Christ and His church? We look forward to hearing from you and working with you!
